I am inspired by the amazing variety and beauty of wood. I strive to enhance it in my turned work, retaining as much of the inherent character as possible, combining natural features with tooled shapes and polished areas. The aesthetics of the finished work is very important to me asI strive for that elusive perfect form.

My materials are derived mostly from local trees and shrubs. I often use trees or branches felled by storms or disease which would otherwise be left to rot or be burned.

Most of my work consists of individual items of a decorative nature and each is unique. Often the characteristics of a special piece of wood suggest a form which would not work for another piece. Nonetheless, it is often possible to make something similar in style to an earlier item or to a concept suggested by a client, subject to availability of suitable material. Examples of my work are shown with a guide to the price that would be charged for a similar piece. I also make things just to please myself and I would be happy to show you a list of what I have “on the shelf” at any moment.
